OKONKWO DEAD
Just recently there has been the death of a well-known man in the tribe. Although he was thrown into the evil forest we managed to get one of the Christian converts to talk about his death.
Name: Nwoye
Relation to Okonkwo: Son
Feelings about Okonkwo: "Okonkwo was not exactly a loving dad. He was alway very harsh. He didn't want to end up like his father which I understand but, he was always so hard on us kids and I couldn't take it so I switched to Christianity."
Do you believe Okonkwo's a hero for his actions?: "I believe Okonkwo was not a hero and died for a weak reason. All he wanted was to not be like his father but you know what they say "When mother-cow is chewing grass its young ones watch its mouth"(70-71) which means children copy their parents and do what they do because that's how they learn. He didn't do this he veered off his father's path but he did this he ended just like his dad did when he got thrown into the evil forest. I understand he was fighting for his culture, but a hero fights for a position of power and does what they believe is right. He was quite a well-known guy and was very successful within his plantation and even when he was exiled he still tried to come back strong. He tried so hard to look strong and powerful as well as be on top, he even killed my brother and threated Ojiugo during the week of peace. However when times got tough and he saw what was happening to the culture and decided to kill himself and getting thrown into the evil forest rather than making a change, saving the culture, and being a hero."
