Religion
Religion carries a heavy influence upon Government and Farming. Currently, in Umuofia we have two religions. The whites have just recently brought in Christianity to the Ibo tribe. We also have our native religion which is the Ibo religion.
Ibo Religion:
The Ibo people are polytheistic meaning they believe more than one god. The Ibo people believe that chukwu is the supreme god however they don't think everything can be done by just one person. Other religious figures are Ani the goddess of earth and the harvest and Agbala an oracle of the hills and caves who can tell the future. The Ibo people also believe in a personal god called their Chi. The Ibo people hold their chi responsible for the events that occur in their lives. It is said that "When you say yes your chi says yes also" (27). This proverb means that when you as yes you really mean it from deep down in your soul and it's meant to be.

Christianity:
Christian missionaries have recently come to our tribe and are trying to convert our people. They make them cut them cut their hair and cut off their titles as well as other things to ensure they are fully devoted to religion.

The evil forest: The Evil Forest is located across the stream from the village where anything that is not tolerated by the religion of Umuofia is sent, this includes people who killed themselves, people who die of swelling and twins.
The shrine to Agbala: this is a cave that worshippers enter through a round hole in the side of a hill.
Christan church: The Christian missionaries built a church in the Evil forest.
